You Can Run, But Germany's Not Providing Safe Haven

A US soldier accused of deserting from the Army in Germany in advance of an anticipated deployment to Iraq won't find a safe haven in Germany.  The German government has denied SPC AndrĂ© L. Shepherd's asylum application because Shepherd failed to meet the criteria for asylum: "The judge wrote that Shepherd is in discord with the U.S. military not because of his political beliefs but because of his failure to fulfill his military obligations, particularly for being away without proper leave."
