Major Witt to Retire from the Air Force

After a 5-year battle, a lesbian Air Force Reserve nurse will be allowed to retire from the military.  Major Margaret Witt was involuntarily discharged from the service in 2006 for homosexual acts.  Witt took her case through the civilian federal courts and won a landmark decision from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals last year.  Despite the government's initial pursuit of further court action on the case, Witt and the US just reached a deal that allows Witt to retire from the Air Force, rather than be reinstated, as ordered by the 9th Circuit panel.
